Pete Kirk is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and taught Art at Kirkcudbright Academy for many years. While at Art School he was Master of Ceremonies at Cambusnethan Priory Medieval Banquets before joining his cousin Katie and her husband Alex to form "The Grants" folk group. "The Grants" performed on BBC, STV and Grampian Television, as well as Radio and Theatre shows throughout Scotland. They had considerable success at the time with their single on REL Records, "Slangeva" which was a Radio Scotland hit pick for many weeks. When the Grants broke up, Pete spent two years touring American Military bases in Italy, Greece and Germany. Through the contacts he made there he moved to El Paso, Texas to join "Painted Wagon" a western dance band. After five years touring round Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, Pete returned to the UK and began teaching Art. It was at this time he formed the band "Southern Cross" with musician Doug Carroll, playing Functions and Festivals throughout the UK. Pete continues to teach and work as a Solo Act, he sings and plays his own instruments using backing tracks for the other band parts. He is a popular entertainer and is particularly sought after for Weddings and Functions of all kinds as his vast experience permits him to play the right music for the right dance at the right time!
